Masters of the Universe Funko POPS
Masters of the Universe (sometimes referred to as the He-Man or She-Ra series) is a sword and sorcery-themed media franchise created by Mattel. The main premise revolves around the conflict between He-Man (the alter ego of Prince Adam) and Skeletor on the Planet Etheria, with a vast lineup of supporting characters in a hybrid setting of medieval sword and sorcery and sci-fi technology. A follow-up series, She-Ra: Princess of Power revolves around He-Man’s sister She-Ra and her rebellion against The Horde on the planet Etheria. Since its initial launch, the franchise has spawned a variety of products, including multiple lines of action figures, 6 animated television series, several comic series, video games, books and magazines, a daily newspaper comic strip, and 2 feature films (one animated, one live action). Masters of the Universe began as a line of toys in the 1980s featuring He-Man “the most powerful man in the universe” and other characters in a sword and sorcery setting. As the line was developed, a backstory was created in which He-Man and his allies fight to defend the supernatural secrets of Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor. Following the success of these toys, Mattel sought to expand the female audience for the franchise. The Princess of Power toy line was introduced in 1984, featuring He-Man’s sister She-Ra. By 1987, coinciding with the release of a live-action film, both Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power had faded in popularity, with the last of the Masters figures being released in 1988. Since 2008, Mattel has marketed the Masters of the Universe classics line exclusively through its website, directly to adult collectors.
